We are a small team from a small community. It didn't take us long to realize we may have trouble competing against some of the bigger districts, so we had to make our experience about our journey. Of course we all want to end up in the winners circle, competing and winning the big prizes. But for us, our FRC experience had to be about more than that. So we made it our goal to share our experiences with our community and to spread the message of STEM. We mentor FIRST Lego League teams in every building in our district as well as mentoring and working with our Center Middle School FIRST Tech Challenge Team. We also made it our mission to make sure more girls are interested in STEM related activities and careers. We found that they start off interested at a early age but then begin to lose that interest around 7th or 8th grade. We started our initiative #webuildourowncastles to engage girls as young as 3 years old in STEM related activities. Then we continue to work with them throughout every grade level to make sure they maintain that interest. These girls become our future mentors and robotics teams members and hopefully eventually choose STEM careers. We also host various community STEM activities such as the STEM tea party, our FIRST Lego Summer camp and our districts Community STEM day.
For HIVE Robotics, our journey makes our community stronger and it makes us a stronger team, so for us, it will always be about the journey and not the destination.
